Week 28: Central Oregon.

So, we move right on into Week 28, and we have hit the road. First stop was a tour of the many small lakes that run along the east side of the Cascade Mountain Range, in central Oregon. We parked the RV in Big Pines RV camp, in the little town of Crescent, Oregon, and hoped for a favourable wind over night.

Returning home, reunions, smoke and birds!

Lakeview Oregon is located in central Oregon, just north of the California border, and is the highest altitude city in the state. During the weekend that I was there, it was announced that there were over 1300 fires burning just within the state of Oregon, not to mention California, Washington, Montana and British Columbia, Canada.

Week 29: The birds of Crater Lake National Park

The first part of this week finds us in south central Oregon, at one of the nation’s true gems, Crater Lake National park. Fortunately we were able to find a nice RV camp, in the nearby town of Crescent, Oregon, which allowed us to be at the park right after sunrise. o It is the second deepest lake in the Western Hemisphere.

Birding (and drinking mezcal) in Oaxaca, Mexico

Called home to the Oregon Coast to operate the family motel, in her free time she leads Tufted Puffin walks and escapes to guide at birding festivals and explore the world as often as possible. Although it is right on a busy road once you walk into the lobby it is peaceful and quiet.

Accessibility Matters

So armed with some knowledge from the “ Access Considerations for Birding Locations ” page on the Birdability website and some research, I twice visited the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge near Portland, Oregon with accessibility in mind. That’s the hashed-out area to the right of the top space in the photo below.)

Best Bird of the Weekend (First of February 2018)

Those Eagles you’re hearing everyone talk about right now aren’t the ones you typically seek while birding, but rather the ones from Philadelphia that just won Super Bowl LII. Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend was the Red Crossbill that plopped down in front of him to grit on Oregon Plains Road in the Adirondacks.
