Many a birder with years of experience in the Neotropical region has never ever seen or heard an RVG. Speaking of cats, I am reminded of an experience a co-worker of mine had while surveying birds years ago in Washington state. It was a ground-cuckoo family and they weren’t even shy!

The Fallen Yellowlegs

Take note of this Greater Yellowlegs on the wall from a screengrab of a video of the Black Skimmer. Did the Black-bellied Whistling Duck represent his family, “showing face” as we say here in the Caribbean? Animals obviously see death and experience it as we do, so the question is not one of if, but of how.

Accessibility Matters

I do not (yet) have any accessibility issues, and my only experience regarding anything akin to accessibility has been limited to the period when my daughter was in a stroller, which presents only a tiny sliver of the challenges faced by many. It is an eye-opening experience to view a familiar place from a new perspective.

They’ve Got an Awful Lot of Birds in Brazil.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. You can get a brief idea of their activity with this video (ignore the photographer commenting on the lighting in the background). However, all is forgotten when you get a good look at them.
