Have done a bit of rescue volunteering in the past. I know no amount of rescue service will make up or replace or change what those poor beings went through. Have any of you guys here had similar experiences? And once the deed is done you start repenting your vile act. I used to do this when I was a kid. Please help/suggest.

Neither of us have any experience with bunnies but we want to help it if it needs help. It’s also too late to call any local rescues. We’ve put it on a heated blanket to warm up but are unsure what to do as it doesn’t seem to have eyes that we can find. It doesn’t seem to react to movement, light or sound at all.

One reason that I can think of for subjecting myself to such a torturous experience is if I am going birdwatching. I caught traveler’s diarrhea four days ago in the jungle (Imodium to the rescue, but just barely). To see any cotinga perched this close and in the open is an incredible experience. Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

Experience shows that bird parents do feed babies in makeshift nests reattached to tree branches, bushes, gutters, and even tree cavity sections duct taped to another tree. Ok, so you’ve rescued a bird. Wild bird rehabilitators want bird parents to feed their own babies. After all, “Mother knows best.” Call a bird rehabber for advice.

Such meditative birding is, for me, the heart of the experience. There was plenty of time to try to convince the dogs that the people in the canoe were not in imminent danger and did not need to be rescued. Eventually the dogs jumped in to rescue the canoers, only to make for shore. What could be better?
