Sure enough, the owl flew in closer and posed proudly on a snag right beside the road. Within minutes, I spotted a crisp, cold white bird flying right in front of the car. The high winds and frigid temperatures made photography difficult, but it felt right to experience my life Snowy Owl in its element among the whipping snow.

Southern Florida offers many unique wintering birds, but perhaps none more so then the sparrows that call different parts of Florida their winter homes. Although, these birds in Florida are pretty far south. In my experience, however, most salt marsh species are seen like this. I prefer a little sweat first.

A MacGillivray’s Warbler was found in southern Florida on Saturday, the day I flew in to Ft. I suspect though that once we get past the Ides of March (beware!) Lauderdale.

Kirby Adams had a magical experience with his Best Bird of the Year and he blogged about it on his blog, Sharp Tern. We were walking through a field of dry grass in a Hamilton County park, looking for sparrows and pursuing three Bobolinks when we flushed a Yellow Rail , literally right at our feet.
