The Christian Science Monitor rightly points out that citizens and consumers need to get involved in endangered species protection, because at the CITES level, it's all about money and international politics.

A Year of Birding in Costa Rica- Highlights and a Few Birds Missed

Missing was Great Black-Hawk , missing on account of not spending enough time looking in the right places and the species having undergone serious decline in Costa Rica over the past 20 years. I looked in some of the right places but failed to connect. In Costa Rica, some of them are also rare and hard to find.

Right Whale Sighting in the Azores

On 5th January 2009 a North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) was seen 5 miles south of Faial Island in the Azores by biologists from Whale Watch Azores and the University of the Azores (UA). This sighting is the first confirmed sighting of a right whale in the Azores since 1888.
