A Fine Day for Photos

10,000 Birds

In the early day, the light was just right. Later in the day, several difficult species decided to be less difficult. There were six species of wild ducks, along with the usual few released domestic ducks. The ducks stayed far enough away to keep me from taking any great photos. Which is hard.

Horrible Hybrids

10,000 Birds

On BirdTrack, the British equivalent of e-Bird, the list of birds provided does allow for Tufted Duck x Ferruginous Duck to be recorded, but not Tufted Duck x Pochard. However, that’s exactly what I guessed the duck swimming in front of me had to be. My hunch was Tufted Duck x Pochard.

Wagbachniederung & Saalbachniederung

10,000 Birds

Although an attractive bird, this species was not of particular interest to me as I’ve seen it countless times when I lived in South Africa (and is not present there at this time of year anyway), but the area has much more on offer. A Grey Heron looked quite comical as it seemed lost right in the middle of one of the ponds.
