What I am getting at here is that I have seen lots and lots of Ruddy Ducks at Jamaica Bay but never one that looked like this particular individual. On eBird, Horicon NWR has nearly 300 species observed, more than 18,000 checklists, and 13 hotspots. Still, I rarely get tired of seeing large flocks of Long-tailed Ducks in their striking plumage. He got a few but none were as cool as some very friendly Fish Crows at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

This 90 acre lake, managed by Arizona Fish and Wildlife is about a 45 mile drive from Tucson, and 9 miles from Mexico, as the Chihuahuan Raven flies. Certainly what I would consider to be an under birded area, eBird.com lists 232 species on 397 total check lists. One raft along had over 380 birds in it.

A furtive peek to the smaller part of the pond at the right hand side, some fishes are twirling at the very surface, showing off their flanks for the moment, then their backs… some strange fishes. In Broome we only have one species of Gull-the Silver Gull Larus novaehollandiae. We presume they lose their feet to fish, as the red lure must be quite enticing! It can appear to be a different species due to the distinct differences. They love to hang out in town around the Fish and Chip shops for some reason!
