One of the big advantages of 50 Top Birding Sites in Kenya is that it was written by a local birder who has clearly visited most of the sites many times and has an insider’s type of knowledge, as opposed to a somewhat superficial knowledge collected en route by visiting birders. Each site gets from 2 to 5 pages (but mostly 3-4).

While driving along and looking for flags, I noticed my lifer hyrax, a large, angry-looking groundhog-like mammal. We did not make too many other stops other than to head back to the “Highest Bar in Africa” for a celebratory beer and I was able to add to my foreign currency collection with a $20 Lesotho Loti.

All were started from collected seeds. Acorns are eaten by all manner of mammals, birds, and insects, and oaks deal with this problem by producing few or no acorns one year, and a flood of acorns the next. A half-dozen Colorín trees ( Erythrina coralloides ) are now growing on the lot, as well as a single Capulín (wild cherry).

The White-tailed Antelope Squirrel , sometimes referred to as the White-tailed Ground Squirrel or the Antelope Chipmunk , is the rare diurnal mammal in the deserts of the southwestern United States. It didn’t get any food but it was immortalized in photographs which I used to identify it.

Sometimes the birds are used as a prop in a mammal exhibit. The Bell collection of birds is impressive. Collection of Blue Birds. The Bell incorporated the dioramas, or at least many of them, into a fantastic floor of natural history museumology. The Loon diorama demonstrates biparental care in a bird. Hungry Lynx will eat bird.

Today, according to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Ginichi Y Ohira was charged in Los Angeles federal court with selling whale meat in violation of the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society had run a sting operation to collect evidence related to the serving of whale meat.

I wasn’t as interested in the mammal jawbone, but it totally piqued his interest. He asked to take the pellet downstairs to do some comparisons to the collections.
