Not only does the Hamilton, Ontario brewery make some great beer, but – as the name suggests – Collective Arts is an enthusiastic supporter of creativity outside of the brewing arts – namely music and visual arts.

Very occasionally though, one might stray down the eastern seaboard of the USA, but for the most part, those that breed in arctic Canada migrate towards Europe and swell numbers there during the winter. The concrete ramp collects seaweed as the tide pushes back and forth.

Horrible Hybrids

I’ve seen some weird-looking hybrids in duck collections. Many years ago a friend of mine kept a small but varied collection of ducks and geese. Both geese are quite closely related as they are members of the genus Branta , which also includes the Redbreasted Goose, Brent Goose, Cackling Goose and Canada Goose.

Costa Rica on a relaxed birding pace

Few places boast so many different bird species in such a small area — over 900 species (more than Europe, or all of the United States and Canada combined), including 75 different families, like 51 species of hummingbirds, 48 warblers, and 45 tanagers. Costa Rica is synonymous with many things, and birding is clearly one of them.

Don’t Ignore the Barnacles – they’re Real Birds

The purist birders take little interest in them, regarding them as no more interesting, or exciting, than the flocks of Canada Geese that have long been established in the county. Here in Suffolk we now have impressive wintering flocks of Barnacle Geese, often numbering 1000 birds or more.
