As part of my effort to keep concerned wildlife enthusiasts informed about the proposal to hunt Eastern Flyway sandhill cranes, it is my duty to tell you that there’s another vote coming up. Their slow wing beat keeps the breast meat from being as dark and strong flavored as many other migratory birds. Well, fire up my grill.

Birding Sukau, Sabah, Borneo

Sukau birding essentially means staying in a more-or-less comfortable lodge on the banks of the Kinatabagan river, and taking boat tours on more-or-less rickety boats on the river. So, just photos of the birds themselves. Why that makes Mr. Graydon worthy of having a bird species named after him is a mystery to me.

Our Snow Leopard sat, quite Cheetah-like, before stalking off and once again rolling in the gravel, apparently an indication of the desire to mask its scent before a hunt. We could not believe our fortune, could we really be treated to a Snow Leopard hunt – this was beyond our wildest dreams?
