What I am getting at here is that I have seen lots and lots of Ruddy Ducks at Jamaica Bay but never one that looked like this particular individual. Water quality was good that day, and we could perfectly see the waving eelgrass, the freshwater fish species, the adorable turtles. In addition to interesting fish views, the glass-bottomed boat tour and clarity of the spring in general provided an unparalleled opportunity to see diving Double-crested Cormorants and Anhingas.

When I reached the levee earlier that morning, I met an elderly hunter from whom I learned that there was an ongoing duck and pheasant hunt, but no one was shooting from, nor towards the embankment, hence I should be safe there.
