This one is a female, although there was more than one male present in the group of some 10 that I saw. But my encounter with a Green Heron by the river was worth documenting here. For the most part, the rest of the day was unspectacular. For example, I did not see any of the gorgeous Orange-breasted Buntings common in the area.

Brothers Anthony and Paul Hertzel, who documented the Minnesota bird, wondered if their bird could have been the offspring of a Blackpoll x Wilson’s Warbler pair. The mystery bird looked something like a male Blackpoll Warbler in alternate (breeding) plumage, but it was yellow and black instead of black and white.

The population has been present for at least 15 years. I suspect that way more research and documentation is conducted on indigenous bird species. The population is large enough to survive a routine amount of mortality or nesting failure. Sufficient offspring are being produced to maintain or increase the population.
