Northern Arapahoes Given Right to Kill Eagles for Religious Purposes

While no one questions the religious sincerity of Northern Arapaho tribal members, spokesmen for some conservation and animal rights groups question why the tribe can't meet its religious needs without killing wild eagles. There was a Gartered Trogon right above me, and one cooperative Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth on a cecropia tree, raising its head to smile at us. I came with 957, and started to collect my birds like an Acorn Woodpecker collects its nuts. A group (maybe 4-5 ex.)

Pied Oystercatchers and Sand Goannas

The chick is just to the right of the adult bird in the photo below in the shade. The Pied Oystercatchers moved around the vegetation and collected food for the chick. Last year they were successful at raising one chick, so we just have to hope they are this year too. There is plenty of vegetation for the chick to hide in.

Protection for a fee: Band-tailed Gulls and Red-legged Cormorants

The following photo sequence depicts a territorial Band-tailed Gull “collecting its protection service fee” from a Red-legged Cormorant nesting within the territory the gull protects on the Palomino Islands in front of Lima-Peru.
