Not enough Woodpeckers

It is hard to imagine any birder not liking woodpeckers – they are the “motherhood and apple pie” of the avian world. The Bearded Woodpecker (Mkuze, South Africa) does not really look any more bearded than many other woodpeckers. The little red bit on the crown on this photo indicates that it is a male bird.

July birding in Northern Germany

About two times per year, I spend a few weeks in Northern Germany – Visselhövede, to be exact. Fortunately, there also birds here, and as I only started birding in China, I am not even that familiar with them. In fact, some common birds here are quite attractive and/or cute. Great Spotted Woodpecker. White Stork.
