Mast Landing Brewing Company: Pantless Thunder Goose Double India Pale Ale

10,000 Birds

The Guinness toucan is easily the most iconic bird mascot in beer history, but the storied Dublin brewery also boasted an ostrich and a pelican in its colorful, avian advertising menagerie of yesteryear. The improbably named Pantless Thunder Goose is a double India Pale Ale by Mast Landing Brewing Company of Westbrook, Maine.

Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

10,000 Birds

This is the home of the Rusty-naped Pitta , admittedly one of the less glamorous of the family, particularly the subspecies found in Yunnan, but still a nice sight and still a pitta. The scientific species name of the Rusty-naped Pitta oatesi honors Eugene William Oates (1845-1911), an English civil servant in India and naturalist.

Birding Mumbai

10,000 Birds

These days, when I have to travel somewhere for business, I try to add a day for birding. This seems to be the best place in Mumbai to see birds. The first bird of the morning was a White-throated Fantail. A Rose-ringed Parakeet and an India Paradise Flycatcher were next. A bit of a show-off, that one.

15 Australian Birds (Episode 2)

10,000 Birds

Some more photos of Australian birds mixed with irrelevant facts and mediocre half-jokes, as a way to pass away the time while being under lockdown in Shanghai (note: it is over now but this post was written during the lockdown). It must be a bit frustrating for a flower to be less colorful than the bird visiting it though.

Birding in the Delhi area Part 2

10,000 Birds

As I simply saw too many interesting birds during my short Delhi birding trip in 2019, I decided to cover the trip in two separate posts. There is no ornithological rationale for which birds are featured in part 1 and 2 – it is merely a question of following the alphabet wherever it led me. One of my favorite bird species.
