Mistletoebird family

10,000 Birds

Here are some of the photos that I have taken over recent days of the Mistletoebird family. We are really enjoying the experience of observing another bird species that is black, white and red breed in our local patch. Male Mistletoebird and nest. Female Mistletoebird and nest. Birding in a Refinery

10,000 Birds

Perhaps a little more shock-inducing and paradoxical than concepts of birding at sewage ponds or graveyards, an oil refinery seems to be the antithesis of a desirable place for a birder. From Yellow-hooded Blackbirds to Purple and Common Gallinules , there are almost too many birds to focus on!

10,000 Birds

The best of summer birding in my experience takes place at the beach. I found myself fully immersed in marine species while boating, fishing, and birding coastal Virginia with family this weekend. The best of a bunch of birds I see all too rarely was, quite fittingly, Virginia Rail showing well in a saltmarsh.

Birding Jonuta Road, in Tabasco, Mexico

10,000 Birds

As such, it offers some unique birding experiences. Even better, I happen to have an online birding buddy who offered to make space that Wednesday and Friday to take me to see some of Tabasco’s birds. The similar Pinnated Bittern , however, was a bird that Rolando had doubted he could show me. Good choice!

Best Bird of the Weekend (Fourth of July 2021)

10,000 Birds

The onset of summer birding doldrums in the temperate range of the Northern Hemisphere generally means highly restricted avian diversity… except in those places where it does not. Basically, summer birding resembles that of other seasons, just hotter and slower! What was your best bird of the weekend? How about you?
