There is of course the dry, cactus strewn desert areas, but with mountains up to 7000 feet, the habitat for our local birds is quite varied. While considered a migratory bird for this area, we do have a few the summer over. Many of the birds that do stay year round tend to congregate around the mangrove trees.

On a recent visit to Cape May Point State Park in search of an elusive Purple Gallinule I did not find my quarry but I did find quite a few photogenic birds. Anas strepera is a common and widespread duck, breeding across northern Europe and Asia, as well as central North America. And Gadwall ducklings are CUTE!
