This large reserve has its namesake mountain range running right down the middle of it, and virtually no roads. The Golden Eagle is not only the National Bird of Mexico, but considered very threatened. These lovely little birds hung around just long enough for me to get a couple of nice images. I was not disappointed.

A member of the small Ptiliogonatidae family of silky-flycatchers, of which there are only three other species besides our local Phainopepla , Phainopepl nitens.

This was a family vacation and I had led my unsuspecting wife and son out onto the curving pier at Aquatic Park, overlooking San Francisco Bay, ostensibly to get a better look at Alcatraz and the bridge, but actually with half a mind to finding a Wandering Tattler.
