I also watched, but failed to get pictures of, the same young bird being fed by two different male House Sparrows. These particular birds were in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, but the same story is taking place all over the world right now, as few species have successfully adapted to as many locations as the House Sparrow.

Thankfully due to the long life span of this bird species the population appears to be somewhat stable at the moment. The Pied Oystercatcher sitting on eggs in the header photo has used that particular area of Cable Beach just north of the rocks since 2008 and the pair has only successfully raised one chick and that was in 2012.

Danny let us know about a bird he had earlier that he was convinced was a Connecticut Warbler , something I teased him about because he has never seen one and it was fun to tell him that he actually had a Nashville Warbler , of which there were at least two in the park. It was pretty awesome that so many people got this bird as their lifer.

When we have cyclonic weather around it is always worth going out to look for any birds that have been blown off course. In fact it was just a casual walk along the shoreline in Broome heading towards the port several days after the windy and wet weather that I accidentally flushed a bird roosting on the rocks.
