It is hard to imagine any birder not liking woodpeckers – they are the “motherhood and apple pie” of the avian world. The Bearded Woodpecker (Mkuze, South Africa) does not really look any more bearded than many other woodpeckers. It is the most widespread woodpecker in Africa, claims the HBW.

One European Robin disappears into the undergrowth (here it is an uncommon bird for these lowland forests, more commonly found in hilly areas).

My personal preference is the block prints, which perfectly capture the spirits of western woodpeckers, jays, and even a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, but there is a Canada Jay watercolor at the end that would look very nice in my living room. And, John Laws widely praised The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds (2012) is mysteriously missing.
