A surprise Orange Chat

One of the target bird species for birders when they visit the Broome area is Yellow Chat. The colour on this bird species is incredible and not easily hidden in the environment. The Orange Chat was clearly feeding on insects and taking advantage of the cow pats in the area. Orange Chat and Black-fronted Dotterel.

Since I have limited experience with eastern Mexico, and even less experience with tropical species, I enthusiastically accepted. By week’s end I had 30 new species on my life list. And the final species, seen in the neighborhood in which I was housed, gave me my 500th species in Mexico. Good choice!

Acheron Delta, Greece: Hell is Closed for Renovation

The coastal delta includes low, scrub-dominated hills and brackish marshes, the habitats with the greatest species richness in moderate zones. I can hear the mooing of cows, interrupted by gunshots, while two scared flocks of ducks fly above the delta. The cows, let free to walk to the nearest wet meadows, are coming in my direction.
