Hawking for Nighthawks

The cows and their entourage of Cattle Egrets sloshed through the pastures, each time they moved we lurched forward hoping to see a disturbed Grey-breasted Crake hop into view – but alas, no such luck even though we were hearing the little skulkers consistently. Farmers keep their livestock in this wetland also. Great Blue Heron.

On "The Wild"

The problem with that statement is it's not as if farmers are searching "the wild" for cows, pigs, chicken and fish, plucking them from their homes, and plopping them on a farm to live out their (shortened) lives prior to slaughter. I do not pass judgment on other species, whose motives I cannot comprehend. Besides, we have choices.

None of this does justice to the earth, and our unique place in it as a species which has great privileges and also appropriate responsibilities. And is video of a cow being pummeled to death with a bat worse than a cow being "processed" in a slaughterhouse? When is violence toward an animal in a video gratuitous?
