I like it for its easily recognizable vocalizations which eBird describes as follows: “Raucous, with a diverse repertoire; squawks and chatters loudly, but also whistles tunefully” Frankly, the Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher ( video ) does not look like much – but it is rare at Nanhui and listed as Vulnerable.

Homework assignment: Is the bird in this video a male or a female? In the non-breeding season, male Baya Weavers sometimes enter the basket-making trade, often with considerable success. Meanwhile, the females seem to have a much more relaxing life, at least in this early stage of the breeding season. And there is a video here.

New York City Park Department Contractor Tears Up Imperiled Sparrows Home

A New York City Parks Department contractor just wiped out a breeding population of sparrows in tons of trouble already, on land owned by the parks department that was supposed to be protected as “Forever Wild.” Here’s a short video of the damage. This species is in too much trouble to throw away a breeding ground.
