We share seven resident species with different parts of the United States: the Rock , Canyon , Cactus , (Brown-throated) House , Marsh , Sedge , and Bewick’s Wren can all be seen within a half hour of Morelia. (I The raucous Spotted and Gray-barred Wrens are in the Cactus Wren family. Not that I’m complaining.

Not without reason, this was taken as an insult by the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. However – and I am not saying this out of misplaced national pride – there is one bird in the Netherlands that proves Jefferson wrong and Buffon right: the White-tailed Eagle (or Sea Eagle ). It’s the only Dutch eagle.

But this man turned out to have worked with the government habitat protection agency, which is why he stopped when he saw me birding.
