It is near a river, attracting some birds that like to eat wet food. As the national bird of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the African Fish Eagle is usually very busy whenever it stays in these countries, giving speeches, opening shopping centers, etc. The birds I asked about this pretended not to be related to anyone though.

First off as we drove in was the Crested Serpent-eagle I’ve shown you before. And this cave has lots of nests, so much so that there is a (sustainable) industry in collecting their nests for birds-nest soup. The Plain Sunbird is the plain vanilla version of the otherwise often very colorful family (ok, a very low-budget sort of joke). Of course, there should be a photo of a vulture here, not of a Crested Serpent-eagle. However, the HBW lists nectar among its food. If these are taken off, the species looks just like Clark Kent.

First I noticed a red cap – a male, then striped flanks and pale-red undertail, but couldn’t see its wing because some part of the bird remained hidden by a branch at any given time. They are very rare birds in Britain, but have been recorded from Scilly in the south to Fair Isle in the north. The bird life certainly changes a bit, with a complete lack of water, unless you are at a town, well, or station, as many of the ranches are referred to. Wedge-tailed Eagles roam the skies, along with Brown Falcon, Black Kites , and Nankeen Kestrels. The third bird flew off just before I could get the shutter released.

When you are able to find a lagoon that is land-locked and offers great birding and you are able to walk around the edge it is a delight.
