Painted Finches are found in arid areas of Australia, but like all finches they do require water to survive. We had never observed this behaviour with any of the finch species we have in Australia.

So, while I am lucky enough to live with my wife and family near the village of Mapleton, in the Blackall Ranges, first join me for a little journey to part of the coast. The distance to the coast for the pair of Brahminy Kites to collect fresh fish is not far. One more bird species with serious talons in the north of Australia! In Sydney my sister and family have just observed their first Pacific Koel from the north, so despite lockdowns nature continues to function normally! Winter is over!
