You might think that birds don’t change the world, birds are the world – but by his odd title, Ten Birds That Changed the World, author Stephen Moss means, he says, that birds have, in various ways, led to “paradigm shifts” in human history. Maybe Moss is right, and birds have changed history. There’s a fair amount of etymology, too.

How, to humans, is “behavior” separate from the bird itself? The structure of wings is addressed in Chapter 8, “Feathers and Flight.” Among their other uses, wings are also employed for balance during copulation, a not unimportant or inconsequential usage, as the male Bald Eagle ably demonstrates in the photo, above right.

I had long yearned of seeing a wild Harpy Eagle and was genuinely thrilled to hear about an active nest not too far from where we would be staying. Selfishly, I was a bit disappointed that the lack of water turned our two-hour commute via river to see the nest of the mighty Harpy Eagle into a no-go. After all, there were already rocks.

Frankly, if the name of the Bald Eagle was North Korean Eagle ( Haliaeetus coreaseptentrionalis ?), There is a great song by The Chills titled “ Complex “ Great link, right? it would not be the national bird of the USA either. If everybody did this, the result would be chaos.

Not sure why they spend time in Shanghai in winter when they could come here though, but then again, I usually do not understand most of the behavior of humans either. Lucky him, right? A Crested Serpent Eagle , looking a bit ridiculous after a rain. Another “maybe this is” species: a possible Wallaces Hawk-eagle.
