This was only my seventh observation of this species in Europe (3 in Greece, 4 in Serbia). Farther on along the levee, there was a huge White-tailed Eagle standing on a big, old poplar. The local levee warden sometimes shepherds his cows here, and the eagle would stand right above him, giving him no second glance.

The toughest thing for me, as a local birder, was to choose the most attractive birds because those that attract my attention are generally all too common in the northwest of Europe, from where most visiting birders are coming. After the Common Starling , my second bird of the morning becomes the largest eagle of Europe, the White-tailed Eagle , this one with a fairly white tail, yet still dark beak, that I estimate to be in its 3rd calendar year. When discussing this topic for local media, I often say that because of their White-tailed Eagles , the Scottish island of Mull makes 2 million pounds per year from birders alone. A little bit further, while watching a large Sambar wallowing in the mudbath, Manoj points our attention to a Crested Honey Buzzard on one and a Changeable Hawk-Eagle on another tree. It belongs to the same species as those in Europe, but a smaller subspecies ( Sus scrofa davidi ). Maybe his reputation is not without a foundation?
