The best walk for observing the rock art in the park that is accessible to the public is the Jinumun walk and it follows the bed of the Keep River to a site once used by the Miriwoong people as a shelter during the Wet Season. One of those darn fine places was the Catarata del Toro because as the rain strived to convert the surrounding air into a lake, we stayed completely sheltered and dry while being entertained by swarms of hummingbirds. Being hummingbirds, they of course faught with each other, the Coppery-headed Emeralds being particularly nasty.

Back in 2014 we stumbled upon a juvenile Double-toothed Kite and that was the first and only time I have ever seen that species well. Red-legged Honeycreeper , I promise!

There are of course various Bloody Bays spread across the Caribbean as the region does have a history in which bloodshed features heavily. The bay itself is fairly large and sheltered from the elements, and one of the larger rivers draining the Main Ridge Forest Reserve empties into the bay on the northern end.

This gravel road runs from south of Halls Creek to Alice Springs on a more direct route than the main highway, but of course is not accessible all year. Basically, this species is so dimwitted, it doesn’t know how to survive. Because, Pink Pigeons are not capable of doing the tasks required to create and bring up children of the species. I would do a lap of the lake and take in all of the different species of birds that called the city home. The distance around the lake is approximately five kilometres and there are limited places to shelter if a storm approaches fast. Some of the sheltered areas were being used by the Chestnut Teal as a roost.

Then there are the Wild Boars, Plantain Squirrels, Monitor Lizards and of course the bird-life. There are also shelters throughout the nature reserve should you be caught out by the weather. There is a really good number of bird species to be observed in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and it is an eBird Hotspot.

This species, the smallest, is endemic to North Island and should be fairly common in the wet lowland forests.
