Rufous-throated Honeyeaters are a species that will dive into water to drink, but they also like to get out into the water on a branch if there is one available and so do many other bird species. Grant collected a suitable dead tree branch with lots of small twigs attached to maximise the area the birds could use.

Lake Corella was formed in 1959 when the Clem Walton Dam was built to collect water for the mining town of Mary Kathleen and is now a popular camping area, especially in the height of tourist season in the cooler months. I watched the Australian Pelican, Chestnut Teal and Silver Gulls in the shallows whilst I had a warm drink. Australian Pelican, Chestnut Teal and Silver Gulls. In Broome it is very easy to get 100 species on January 1st, which looks great for a while, but then you realise that before long other Beat Writers have jumped on aeroplanes and wandered further from home than we have. An Eastern Osprey nests in the lighthouse tower at Gantheaume Point, so always check that area for the species.

We collected information on National Parks and there were several that we had not previously heard of. Little Black Cormorants and Australian Pelican. Australian Pelicans soaring in the thermals. There was evidence of the mussels that would be a source of food for many species in the receding water line.

The Behn River was not flowing in July this year, but the small pools of water still attracted numerous bird species and the freshwater crocodiles were concentrated in the deeper pools. Even the smallest pools of water were providing food and although there were not large numbers of many species there was a huge variety. Glossy Ibis.
