With travel restrictions still in place, going on a birding trip outside of China is still not a practical option. Fortunately, China itself has a large number of bird species and habitats. I guess it is pretty common in many areas of China, but not in Shanghai, so it is still a special bird for me.

Birding Mengbishan, Sichuan, China

As often in China, the choice seems to be between terrible infrastructure and almost no people or great roads accompanied by caravans of tour buses. Currently, the heavy trucks passing by right next to the main birding road occasionally do add a bit of a non-birding-related thrill to birding at Mengbishan.

The Alpine Accentor reaches right to the top of the pass at 4500 meters … … while the Rufous-breasted Accentor (like me) seems to have fewer problems breathing at a slightly lower altitude. And it is a great place for birding.

When seen from the right angle, the females are quite attractive as well. I do not have a strong opinion on rosefinch ID, though looking at some photos online, I think she is right. Then, there were Pink-rumped Rosefinches. At least that is what Bella thinks.
