The Hummingbirds of Western Montana

The Montana Field Guide, a helpful online compendium provided by the state government, lists seven species. As far as right now, the first report of a Calliope Hummingbird from the local bird mailing list came in on April 22. It certainly drew plenty of feeder birds over the winter. The ways of birds are mysterious.

The ORI maintains a research station in the Mission Valley of Western Montana, neighboring the Ninepipes National Wildlife Refuge. but a particularly outstanding one here in western Montana.
