Usually, it’s “Bird eating fish” but here we have a case of a “Bird-eating fish.” ” The Wels Catfish, Silurus glanis , is the second largest fish in its range, which covers much of Europe and parts of West Asia. As noted, the fish-like mammals do this as well.

Black-bellied Plover: Known as Grey Plover in Europe and Asia. Grey-tailed Tattler: I already made fun of this poor species in my last post. “Sleep with the fishes”? At least from the perspective of the fish. Cuckoo species (Common?): Point for American birders, I am afraid. Proof that there is no god?

The Common Pochard is listed as Vulnerable – not because it is particularly rare, but because of the rapid decline in its numbers (a decline of 50% within 10 years means a species is listed as Vulnerable – and a 50% loss in 10 years sounds quite dramatic and frightening indeed). Of course, Little Egrets like to eat fish.

Not too many highlights, not too many species … hard to say whether this is just the usual nostalgia for a better but probably nonexistent past or a real phenomenon. This species is listed as vulnerable – similar to the Yellow-breasted Buntings, it is trapped on a large scale. According to the HBW, they mainly eat fish.
