Maybe you saw that popular video recently aswell where a small dog gets killed by coyote and owner takes revenge. modern cats/dogs should be seen as a protection and when you think deeply you understand that it is just nature that coyote also has a stomach to feed. After that he cooks and eats it. i am not defending someone here.

Why don't Pumas/Mountain Lions/Lynx form packs?

It seems like creating packs is the best survival method for animals and humans. which are also animals) On Netflix's "Predators" they show a Puma family that doesn't form a pack but it seems like life in a group would be a lot easier. Similarly wolves and coyotes do form packs and have quite a bit of success.
