Any dedicated birder visiting Panama City should first consider the Canopy Tower , one of the most important and beloved birding lodges in the Americas. In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. This species is a Summit Ponds specialty.

So, I was excited to read reports in late 2017 of a pair of Whooping Cranes being seen on a cattle farm. Whooping Crane is not listed as a “sensitive species” for Florida, and there are reports for other locations in the area.
