The last aspect is something I will elaborate on further below, but not before showing off a prime fine male House Sparrow, unethically photographed at its nest site.

A Selection of Kenyan LBJ’s

What better selection than the various birds of the Kenyan highlands, right? I can’t say that the rest of the group shared my commitment. Speaking of sparrows, we managed to see several species, many of which were within Nairobi city limits. Other sparrows were seen in much more remote areas.

Still, in any given three-week period (which is the period I have dedicated to this latest group of thematic posts), dedicated birding will produce some sort of news. I’m no expert, but I strongly suspect Rusty Sparrows only hunt for grubs when they are feeding babies. This Grace’s Warbler was showing off in Pino Real.

Although it is right on a busy road once you walk into the lobby it is peaceful and quiet. Continuing up the watershed, we hiked quiet backroads which revealed a Great Pewee , Bridled Sparrow , and more. A group of Bushtits (melanotis Group) are similar to the Bushtits we know and love but with a black facemask.

Warblers that Warble

Its insect-like buzz reminds me most of the Grasshopper’s Sparrow’s song. I almost always see the Rufous-crowned Warbler in groups of two or three. I almost always see the Rufous-crowned Warbler in groups of two or three. I love to hear its song in our dry canyons. chi-chi-chi-chi-chi-ssiu-ssiu-ssiu-ssiu.
