For day 2 of the conference, we headed out to the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve to look at some in-progress projects. After leaving the group, I pulled into a boat launch with a great view of a marshy, mud flat area near the beach. Luckily for me, there was time afterwards for a little birding.

Here's a group I've never heard of. I found a link to them on ANIMAL's blog (ANIMAL is a Portuguese animal rights group.) These scientists are NOT an animal rights group. They do support some animal-based studies (which sucks); HOWEVER, they acknowledge that much animal research is useless.

I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I would never advocate violence against a researcher. I almost quit a book club a year ago because one of the members is a proponent of medical research. I had to stay in that group because she must be challenged.
