I have been slowly working up to my latest life list benchmark (2,000 bird species) and scoured eBird for a location within an 8-hour flight to get some lifers. A group of Bushtits (melanotis Group) are similar to the Bushtits we know and love but with a black facemask. And somehow this directed us to Oaxaca.

Especially if they are competing for attention with multiple species of large mammals at a watering hole. We observed this Foxy Lark vocalizing while on a game drive. I can’t say that the rest of the group shared my commitment. Some of them, like this Quailfinch had bold patterns.
