Pet sales would be banned altogether, except for the sale of pet fish. All companion animals including dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, birds, snakes, and lizards would be considered as pets. If it passes, San Francisco residents would have to go to a shelter or rescue group to adopt an animal.

One of my sharper photos was this one. It is a dark but otherwise o.k. It’s a polite way to pronounce it, to make the i long, but it’s still feces.

The cool stuff seen, principally a Colugo (a flying lemur as it is sometimes known) and the odd Bearded Pig, were somewhat spoiled by the feeling that too many people were scaring away other cool stuff. Two highlights of the walk back were a bright green Greater Green Leafbird and a Lesser Fish Eagle following the road above our heads.

The Pigeon Guillemot is bringing a small fish for breakfast back to the nest. This is also the location of the great Pig War of 1872. The four hour run to the island was made in sunny, calm weather, and unfortunately, only provided me with some Pigeon Guillemots and one Marbled Murrelet. Here is one of them standing in the kelp.

It seems that these people, who purport to claim to care so much about animals, are completely ignorant of the existence of any animal life beyond horses, cows, pigs, chickens and turkeys. Lake Eacham is a crater lake that was once home to an endemic fish, but that species is gone from the lake due to introduced (but native) fishes (the species survies thanks to fish fanciers collecting them, however). It was also approaching midday, which is never the best time to bird anyway.
