The Philadelphia Metro Wildlife Center in Norristown covers four Pennsylvania counties (including Philadelphia) and takes in over 3000 animals a year. Licensed wildlife rehabilitator and Assistant Director Michele Wellard relayed this story: In the spring a few years back, a man cut down a tree on his property outside Philadelphia.

A Few Highlights from the Annual Bird Count at Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica

It takes a detour to reach Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge in Costa Rica but oh how the trip is worth it. It was a treat to see several wintering members of the esteemed Parulidae family. We did not look for owls nor had access to a marshy lagoon that would have given us more birds, and yet still saw or heard that many species.

Sand Point Family Vineyards: Cabernet Sauvignon (2015 Lodi Appellation)

To celebrate this minor listing milestone, I chose a 2015 Cabernet by Sand Point Family Vineyards of Acampo, California, whose logo is an adorable California Quail sitting on a swing (we can presumably eliminate the similar Gambel’s Quail by range here). Nisqually Delta Wildlife Refuge

The last weekend of January found me in the frosty Pacific Northwest, meeting some long over due work and family obligations. Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. I had a nice visit with the local biologist, who gave me a heads up on where to find some owls, but try as I might, I never was able to locate them.
