Part of the Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge, it is an amazing place to take in the seabirds of the North Pacific. I found this little grouping of Guillemots, with parents, babies and even an egg. What started as a small group of birds, with the hope they would make it on their own, is now a very strong breeding population. Tomorrow morning we will head on down to England, and the township of Hull, to visit the Spurn Wildlife Reserve.

A self-taught Canadian wildlife artist, he has been fascinated by birds from childhood – their physical charm, their voices, their intriguing habits. He died on July 27, 2008.
