Nowhere in India have I seen broiler horror-chicken like those sold in supermarkets back home. They belong to a long-maned subspecies Sus scrofa cristatus (like four-legged Greco/Roman crested helmets) and are my second race of boar seen in India, while I still remain the only Serbian birder who has never seen one closer to home!

This was only my second time ever to observe this subspecies (the first time was here as well), two other subspecies I have observed in India. Photographed within Beljarica: five White-tailed Eagles by Snezana Panjkovic. Two hundred metres further on, two young White-tailed Eagles were soaring. Easily enough, they got it here.

Though “red-breasted” oversells this one a bit. Red collared Dove. Red-vented Bulbul. Kind of a Nazi in the bird world, I guess. Red-wattled Lapwing.

A White-tailed Eagle is calling somewhere from the forest. Judging by Google Earth, some 250 m / 800 ft away, there’s a Greater Spotted Eagle , dark adult that appears like a black hole, like an object pulling and eating all the light, itself appearing as dark as can be. Nearby are four very dark brown ducks… Tufted Duck females!

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. At the far end of the lake stands a tall, dry tree with an eagle that we are struggling to determine and it remains a dark silhouette far too far.

Sultanpur National Park is situated approximately 30km to the west of Indhira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi , India. There are a lot of predators drawn to such abundance with Eurasian Marsh Harriers and Greater Spotted Eagles known to take chicks from the heronry. This D usky Eagle Owl is blind on one eye but still seems to be doing ok. This Indian Eagle Owl was relentlessly mobbed by some crows. The Brown Fish Owl is the most common of all Fish Owls. Its ear tufts seem to be almost horizontal rather than vertical. Well, it mostly hunts at night, when it is dark anyway.
