I found my Guinea pig unresponsive this morning. I took him indoors to show to my dog and cat which had bonded with him. He was freezing cold, his limbs were stiff but not his body. His eyes were milky. He has no partner, he was somehow happier after his brother passed away.

When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.

When we left off , the New York Times' Roger Cohen had eaten dog while in China, and wasn't thrilled about it emotionally. Logically, he admits it does make perfect sense to eat dogs if you eat pigs and cows. However I cannot see a rational argument for saying eating dogs or cats is barbaric while eating pork or beef is fine.

I got my first pets, mice and guinea pigs, when I was 8. I didn’t get my first dog until I was 20, but since then I have been making up for lost time. Pet sales would be banned altogether, except for the sale of pet fish. If it passes, San Francisco residents would have to go to a shelter or rescue group to adopt an animal.

The oldest dog, Max, is 17, while the oldest horse, Prince is 36.

It is no more acceptable to confine 60 hens for their entire lives in a cage that you report is “about the size of a Ford F-150 pickup truck’s flatbed” than it would be to treat 60 cats similarly. From the feral cats of Project Treadstone to Charles' back surgery to problems with Violet's Vetsulin (insulin for dogs), we had more than our share of issues. Dogs have died from hypoglycemia due to Vetsulin and there is a class action lawsuit. Like many people with diabetic dogs, I haven't had major problems with Vetsulin.
