For the Buffy Laughingthrush (Tianmushan, Zhejiang), I would have thought that the distinct blue and black eye patterns would make for a good name.

The bird was buried on the golf course—perhaps in an effort to hide the evidence—but was later dug up by Florida investigators. What say you?

Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages. The latter is even captured in a somewhat gruesome video , in which the hornbill plucks a caged bird out of its cage and kills and eats it. Then she tried to feed it to the remaining chicks.

Tibbles did contribute, but it was a population of feral cats that did the bulk of the killing. For the wren, that advantage was taken away in 1894, when a pregnant cat escaped (Tibbles was a pet taken from the subsequent feral population). Which makes for a nice myth, but it isn’t entirely true. Gone forever.
