When news later reached our little town (likely through a newspaper) that the bird-killing chemical was to be banned, my environmental activism was born. Images of wildlife coated in toxic goo haunted me; particularly the birds. But birds can fly so they’ll be fine, right? Destroy the habitats – destroy the wildlife.

Twitching

Twitching is a British term used to mean “the pursuit of a previously located rare bird.” Basically, I never had the time to chase birds. My second twitch, during the winter of 2011, was also in the area of McArthur where an American Tree Sparrow ( Spizella arborea ) was spotted during a Christmas Bird Count.
