Cypriot Delights: Part I

10,000 Birds

I’ve been a regular visitor to the island of Cyprus for over 25 years, making around a dozen trips during this period, every one in search of birds. I made my most recent visit earlier this month, arriving with my three birding companions, Martin, Mike and Chris, on a warm spring evening. It was strange to hear it here in Cyprus.

The Cry of the Curlew

10,000 Birds

Curlews are birds of serious conservation concern in the UK, with numbers falling sharply this century. 10,000 Birds

Birding from home

10,000 Birds

She should have bailed but, game gel that she is, took a huge leap, slipped and spread-eagled on landing. Our garden birds have taken to using the jumps and markers as lookout posts from which to drop on unsuspecting worms and insects. One bird still does this, while the other bird maintains a respectable social distance.

Guide to birding the Forgotten Road in the Djerdap National Park, Serbia

10,000 Birds

Habitats: Check Birds… well, more presumed what the possibilities are, than actually checked… Sleeping: Check Getting around: Check I will come back to these topics in a while. Nevertheless, I left gifts behind, two dozen copies of a common bird guide (which I wrote and published) for local wardens. It sounded birdy and I was game.
