The Brown Pelican and the Peruvian Pelican are closely related and once were considered the same species. The Brown Pelican occurs in both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America and northern South America. Plus, there was once a time when I couldn’t tell a tern from a gull, let alone differentiate between species.
