It’s not a species you are likely to overlook, either, as it is extremely noisy, its cackling call carrying great distances. I wonder whether birds that breed in Europe ever meet up with those nest in southern Africa?

Birding Lake Kerkini, Greece: Three Lazy Days

Some 320 species have been recorded here, and in springtime it is possible to observe more than 150 bird species in a week. However, during a storm the chains that kept it anchored broke off and the raft is now stranded on the shore, accessible to stray dogs and not used for breeding. Further flooding across Roebuck Plains

It appeared that many of the birds that we had seen on earlier visits this year had abandoned the area due to the huge expanse of water. Glossy Ibis were by far the dominant species and we observed hundreds of them in flight as we crossed Roebuck Plains. It really can be too wet for ducks! Glossy Ibis in flight. Young Giant Frogs.

Big Day on a Tiny Island

It was an undeniably dank morning at the top of this island watershed, and even though we were able to discern some other species like Rufous-tailed Jacamar and the endemic Trinidad Motmot , activity was a bit slow. We were hoping for some of the more secretive species, however. From hidden perches, Blue-backed Manakins vocalized.
