Highlights from Birding Costa Rica, 2019

10,000 Birds

I write this on the final day of the year, the last bit of 2019. If birders still fancied adding that Purple Finch, Ivory Gull, or Three-wattled Bellbird in 2019, December 31st would have been their final chance. The bird foraged on fruit in the upper understory, moving the vegetation almost as much as a monkey does.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Fourth of August 2019)

10,000 Birds

What could be better than the New York State Fair, especially after a Bald Eagle deigned to circle overhead in honor of everything that makes the Empire State great? Though Corey arrived in Costa Rica Saturday afternoon he’s spent more time on the beach than he’s spent looking for birds. What was your best bird of the weekend?

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of June 2019)

10,000 Birds

Even the birding is decent. Corey only birded for a bit on Saturday afternoon and didn’t see much that was terribly exciting. Of what he did see, a pair of Bald Eagles at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge was the highlight, a species that didn’t used to be around in June in Queens at all. How about you?
