An avian butcher at work: Red-backed Shrike ( Lanius collurio ) depicted by Dutch bird illustrator J.G. Keulemans (1842 – 1912) in Onze vogels in huis en tuin (“Our Birds in Home and Garden”). Good birding and happy drinking! Castellare di Castellina: Chianti Classico (2019).

Herdade do Esporão Bico Amarelo Vinho Verde (2019)

10,000 Birds

As with our last Birds and Booze post , we’re in Portugal yet again, this time revisiting what is perhaps the world’s most quenching style of wine: vinho verde. I wish I could find more bottles of vinho verde with birds on their labels, because it’s a wine I’d happily drink all sweltering summer long. Good birding and happy drinking!

A few interesting birds seen at Nanhui, Shanghai in 2019

10,000 Birds

The mixtape covering the year 2019 would be a rather boring affair, including mostly songs by The National, with one or two by Craig Finn and Hold Steady added, as well as Avant Gardener (almost none of which were released in 2019, showing how far behind I am these days). But I digress). How many legs? Well worth the trip.

Birding in Nanhui, Shanghai in October 2019

10,000 Birds

So, this post just shows 25 birds I spotted at Nanhui (coastal Shanghai) in October 2019. One of the birds seemed somewhat incompetent in handling the seeds of the local trees. The Hawfinch is another bird I have seen both at my parents` garden and at Nanhui. Sometimes I am tired of words, tired of writing.
